Breast Augmentation

Whether alone or as part of a Mommy Makeover, breast augmentation is one of the more commonly performed operations by Dr. Brenner. Dr. Brenner tailors the procedure to meet each patients specific desires. Many variables such as the incision and approach, implant location, type of implant, tissue characteristics, and patient wishes are all considered to obtain the best outcome for each patient.
Implant Choices:
Options for breast implants now include saline and silicone breast implant devices. Dr. Brenner is also one of a select few plastic surgeon investigators in an FDA trial for Ideal Implant, a "hybrid" baffled saline implant designed to look and feel like a silicone implant. During your consultation, you will be able to compare and contrast all three types of implants.
Surgical Options:
Dr. Brenner performs breast augmentation on an outpatient basis, either alone, or in combination with other body contouring procedures. The small incisions are carefully placed and are barely visible. Access incisions are usually made under each breast (in the fold) or around the nipples. Implants may be inserted just under the gland of the breast (sub-glandular) or beneath the muscle tissue (sub-muscular). Choice of location depends both on each individual’s breast anatomy, as well as each patient’s preference.
Surgery Details:
After making the incision, Dr. Brenner carefully creates a pocket for the the breast implant device. This is either located behind the breast tissue itself, or behind the underlying chest wall muscle. The implant goes into the pocket, and a few stitches close the breast tissue and the incision. The whole procedure takes a couple of hours. Afterward, a sterile gauze dressing will be applied, followed by a padded chest wrap.
Recovery:
Oral pain medication will help control any discomfort that you may experience, which should subside in a day or two. If Dr. Brenner places your implants into the submuscular position, he may additionally prescribe a muscle relaxant to help relieve any muscle spasm which can commonly occur. If you experience swelling and bruising, it should disappear within a week. You will be up and around within a day or two after surgery, although you will have to take it easy and avoid any overhead lifting or heavy upper body exertion.
Your chest wrap will be removed the day after surgery, and Dr. Brenner will start you in a snug-fitting surgical or sports bra. Dr. Brenner recommends that you purchase several sizes of sports bras prior to surgery so that you will have a nice selection of comfortable bras during your recovery. The sutures will be taken out within a week. Scars are an inevitable aspect of any surgery, but they will be small and inconspicuous, and they will gradually fade to become barely noticeable.
Breast augmentation surgery is extremely effective and can enable you to wear clothes, bathing suits and lingerie with a brand new sense of pride and self-confidence.
